                            Welcome!

We are Lawrence Wong (4G), Melvin Ng (4G) and Ryan Chua (4K) from Raffles Institution, SIngapore and we are proud to dedicate this website to our research project entitled, "Concurrent Removal of Heavy Metal Ions from Water and Hydrogen Production using TiO2 nanotubes"!

“Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink.” In fact, this is what Singapore is facing.

" /> “Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink.” In fact, this is what Singapore is facing. Being an island surrounded by seawater, it may seem that we would definitely have no trouble with our water demands. The fact is 40% of the national water supply is actually imported from Malaysia. Moreover, in 2011, one of the Singapore-Malaysia water agreements expired. Another issue would be wastewater. A major source of our GDP comes from Manufacturing. And of course, one of the major outputs would be industrial wastewater. Additionally, Singapore is a country facing the shortage of land and lack of natural resources.
                            • Sustainability! Sustainability! Hence, there’s a dire need for Singapore to find a sustainable solution to manage this situation. Thus our project, “Concurrent removal of heavy metal ions and hydrogen production from water using TiO2 nanotubes” is highly relevant. With this, we are able to produce this clean energy along with clean water.
                            • Hydrogen! Hydrogen! Upon combustion, hydrogen merely produces water and energy. With that, our dependence on fossil fuels would greatly decrease. The TiO2 can also be reused by placing them in regenerants or in acid/basic conditions.
                            • 3 out of the Top 5 issues! 3 out of the Top 5 issues! These issues of energy, water and environment are already the top agendas of politicians worldwide.

The significance of this project goes beyond Singapore and can help with industrial wastewaters.
